Nature’s Multitaskers
Ingredients That Do More Than One Job
Modern skincare can feel overwhelming sometimes. Ten-step routines, overflowing cabinets, products for every tiny concern. But some of our favorite ingredients have always been the simplest ones: the ones that quietly do more than one job well.
At Flying Cow, we’re drawn to ingredients that feel versatile, dependable, and time-tested. Ones that will have you reaching for them again & again!
Tallow
Clearly, tallow is our star player! It's incredibly versatile. For generations, it has been used as an everyday skincare staple for people of all ages.
- Rich in naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K
- Similar in composition to the skin’s natural oils
- Deeply moisturizing without feeling overly complicated
- Often used from head-to-toe for dry or sensitive skin
- A simple option many families keep on hand for everyday hydration
Beeswax
While we don’t currently use beeswax in our products, it has long been valued in skincare, candles, and household goods for its protective qualities and wide range of uses.
- Helps create a breathable barrier on the skin
- Assists in locking in moisture
- Commonly used to give balms and salves their structure
- Naturally long-lasting and shelf stable
- Often found in lip balms, salves, candles, and body care products
- Valued in traditional skincare routines for its simplicity and functionality

Jojoba Oil
Despite the name, jojoba is technically a wax ester rather than a traditional oil, which may be part of why it works so well across different skincare products.
- Lightweight and fast-absorbing
- Popular in both facial skincare and beard care
- Works well for a variety of skin types
- Often used to soften and smooth without a heavy feel
- Blends easily with other oils and ingredients
- Helps create a balanced, silky texture in skincare products
Castor Oil
Castor oil has long been appreciated as a multi-purpose household and skincare ingredient because of its thick, deeply conditioning texture.
- Often used in hair, scalp, and beard care products
- Known for its rich, concentrated consistency
- Commonly included in cleansing oils and moisturizers
- Frequently used in traditional beauty routines for brows, lashes, and dry areas
- Blends well with lighter oils to create nourishing skincare formulas
Honey
Honey has been used traditionally in both skincare and wellness practices for generations and remains a favorite in many simple beauty routines.
- Naturally soothing and comforting on the skin
- Commonly used in masks, cleansers, and balms
- Helps attract and retain moisture
- Often appreciated for its soft, gentle feel
- A versatile ingredient found in both skincare and home remedies

Essential Oils
We love essential oils not just for scent, but because many have traditionally been used in both skincare and home routines for generations.
Lavender
- Commonly used in skincare, baths, linen sprays, and home products
- Known for its calming, relaxing aroma
- Often found in soaps, bath products, linen sprays, candles, and pillow mists
Frankincense
- Traditionally valued in skincare and wellness rituals
- Popular in facial products and massage blends
- Appreciated for its grounding, earthy aroma
- Commonly used in facial serums, moisturizers, massage blends, perfumes, candles, and diffuser blends
Lemon
- Bright, fresh scent commonly used in both home and body products
- Adds an uplifting, refreshing element to routines
- Frequently found in DIY cleaning sprays, dish soaps, countertop cleaners, candles, diffusers, and body care products
Tea Tree
- Often used in clarifying skincare products
- Popular in scalp care and targeted skincare routines, deodorants & shampoos
- Known for its fresh, herbal scent and versatility
