Study Spots in Lubbock, TX - From a Texas Tech Student

When I first moved to Lubbock for school, I found myself struggling to locate study spots that fit my learning style. Over these last two years, I have made it my mission to scope out the most popular coffee shops, cafes, and on-campus nooks to decide which ones I liked best. These are my top 5 study spots I have found so far!

My top study spot may feel a little bit like cheating since it isn't a public spot, but it's actually my very own place of work, the Flying Cow break room! I am someone who likes to study in almost complete silence, but there has to be a little bit of noise to keep part of my brain occupied while the other part focuses. In the break room, there is this box on the wall that makes constant noise and for some reason it hits my brain just right. This paired with the ambient lighting and cozy atmosphere, it’s my 10/10 study spot.

I share this  to highlight that study styles  can impact how good a study spot actually is.  Some people work better in silence, while others thrive in bustling areas. Unfortunately, not everyone gets the privilege of enjoying their job’s breakroom, but don’t worry because I am about to give you some great options that Lubbock has. However you prefer to study, just know there is a spot for you!

One of my personal favorite spots is Gold Stripe Coffee! This one is great for those who prefer natural lighting! This is a coffee shop with two locations, each being a little different, but both still deserve a shout out. Here are their locations:

Cactus Alley: 2610 Salem Ave Ste 5 Lubbock, TX 79410

For those who prefer a more whimsical setting, this location is the perfect one for you! It has a beautiful outdoor seating area right in the sun, but if you prefer the air conditioning in this Lubbock heat, it also has a decent amount of indoor seating. It isn’t too loud on weekdays and has the perfect amount of outlets for those who forget to charge their laptop, AKA me. There is also plenty of table space for the notetakers who need extra elbow room!

The FirstBank & Trust building: 9816 Slide Rd Ste 102 Lubbock, Texas 79424

Out of the two locations, this one is actually my personal favorite, despite being located in a bank building. It is a little busier on the weekdays, but there is a good amount of seating and it is spacious enough to move away from the noise if needed. The booths are also very comfortable, so sitting for multiple hours studying is no biggie! The coffee and customer service at both of these locations is impeccable and there are plenty of food options on the menu for the study snackers!

The final coffee spot I have decided to include is Monomyth Coffee! Monomyth has actually won the award for “Best Independent Coffee Shop in the Nation” two years in a row! This shop is great if you study best in noisy/bustling atmospheres, as it is almost always busy. The staff is kind and efficient in getting your order to your table, which is helpful in an intensely focused study session. It has great, bright lighting and there are outlets all over the place so your laptop never loses charge!

Monomyth Coffee: 2024 Broadway St, Lubbock, TX 79401

If you are already a big fan of working out of coffee shops, there are plenty more that Lubbock has to offer. These are just my personal favorites!

Another great spot, which is where I take all of my online final exams, the Texas Tech Library Basement! Specifically the basement because it is the quietest floor and there are never more than five people down there at a time. This area is packed with chairs, tables, and outlets as well as blockers so no one else can see what you’re working on! This building is also great because there are vending machines on the first floor in case you get peckish while doing schoolwork.

Texas Tech Library: 1802 Boston Ave Lubbock, TX 79409

If you’re ever like me and need to get some work done, but you need a change of atmosphere, I hope you find relief in one of these spots!
