We Get These Questions A LOT

We Get These Questions A LOT

We love hearing from you - and over time, we’ve noticed there are a handful of questions that pop up again and again. Whether it’s about our products, how we ship, or what to expect when you visit one of our stores, we thought it might be helpful to put things in one place. So here it is: a quick roundup of answers to the questions we get asked the most!

Why is my 3 oz jar not filled to the top?

That's a great question! We actually use 4 oz jars and fill them with 3 oz of product (by volume!) for two reasons. First, we couldn't find 3 oz jars that matched our other sizes or met our standards for jars and lids. Second, we want you to be able to travel with your tallow and 3 oz of "liquid" is allowed through TSA in your carry on when flying.

This typically looks like product filled 3/4-1 inch below the lip of the jar. We do fill the jars by hand so you may even get a little extra sometime, but we always make sure they are filled with at least 3 oz by volume.

If your jar appears to be much lower than that, it likely melted in transit. Please reach out to our customer service team customerservice@flyingcowtallow.com or call the Midland store and we will get a replacement jar sent as soon as possible.

Can I pick up my order locally in store?

Absolutely! Just select "Local Pickup" at checkout, and choose your closest store location. As long as the product is in stock, we will fill it in store and you can pick it up during regular store business hours. If for some reason we are out of the tallow or the size, we will send you an email!

Please note - there are certain products only available in select stores, so if it doesn't give you the option for local pickup, likely something in your cart isn't carried at that store!

Also, our Franklin, TN store has not been set up yet for in-store pickup online. If you need to pick up locally in Tennessee, please call the store directly and order over the phone.

Why does this jar of tallow feel different than my last order?

Well, we make everything by hand! Since it's a completely natural product, it varies slightly from batch to batch. We do use the same recipe and method every time we make our tallow, but there are a number of factors that are out of our control.

Every now and then, you may notice a different texture. Whether more whipped, or slightly gritty - this is to be expected as we refuse to add anything synthetic to our products that would more "guarantee" a consistent feel. If the tallow balm is harder or got too cold, rub it between your fingers to warm it up and it will spread easily again. The good news is - even if the texture is off, the product is still as effective and works!

What we can control, we are very consistent in. We strive to create an amazing tallow with each batch we make, but if you are unhappy with your jar, message us the batch number and we can make sure you get another one. No need to keep your tallow refrigerated, but it will start to liquify around 85 to 100 degrees.

Do you offer free shipping?

We do not! Unfortunately, shipping costs have continued rising, including shipping materials as well. But, we do offer a standard flat rate for you for Standard and Priority shipping.

We hope this helped clear up some of the questions you’ve had—we’re always here to make things simple and transparent for you. If there’s something we didn’t cover, drop your question in the comments below and we just might include it in our next FAQ roundup!
