A Fourth of July Worth Walking Downtown For

There's something fun about Franklin on the Fourth. Main Street starts filling up early, lawn chairs line the sidewalks, antique cars roll into place, and the whole downtown area feels a little more alive than usual. This year feels especially memorable too, as 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the country's founding. Whether it's your first Franklin Fourth or a tradition you've been coming back to for years, downtown always feels like a pretty good place to spend the day.

The Franklin Lions Club puts the celebration together, and everything kicks off at 10:00 that morning right around the historic downtown Franklin square, just a short walk from our shop. There's a Patriotic Pet Parade at 10:30, food and craft vendors throughout the day, and vintage cars parked along Main Street for browsing. The ice cream eating contest at noon always draws a crowd, and by late afternoon the Children's Patriotic Parade takes over. If you're bringing little ones, that's often the part of the day they talk about long after it's over.

Once things begin winding down around the square, many people make their way over to the Park at Harlinsdale Farm, where Friends of Franklin Parks hosts an evening of live music leading up to the fireworks around 9:00 PM. Students from School of Rock Franklin help kick things off before the live band takes over as the evening settles in. Bring a blanket, plan to stay awhile, and enjoy one of those summer nights where the music, the company, and being together somehow become just as memorable as the fireworks themselves.

An Easy Stop Along the Way

We're right on Main Street, so stopping in is an easy addition to your Franklin on the Fourth plans. Whether you're finding your spot for the parade in the morning or wandering back through downtown before heading to Harlinsdale later that evening, we'd love to have you stop by. Come cool off for a few minutes, browse around, and enjoy a slower moment in the middle of the day's excitement.

Something to Bring Along

A holiday like this has a way of bringing people together: family in town for the weekend, neighbors gathered around a grill, friends opening up their homes for an evening together. Showing up with something thoughtful always feels like a sweet touch, and our handmade skincare gifts are easy to hand off.

If you're putting together a little hostess gift, our Lavender is an easy choice for someone who loves something simple and calming. Shield has become a favorite for families wanting something reliable to keep on hand, and Wild Orange feels especially fitting for summer with its bright, clean scent. For new parents heading into their first Fourth, Baby Balm is a gentle, no-fuss option to tuck into a bag. These are the kinds of Fourth of July gifts in Franklin that travel well and don't take much explaining when you hand them over.

And if you'd rather skip the guesswork altogether, some of our favorite handmade gifts are the ones made by the makers throughout the shop. Candles, pottery, artwork, and little treasures have a way of becoming the things people remember most.

More to Explore While You're Here

Throughout the store you'll also find A Place for the Maker, the corner of our Franklin shop Britney built to make room for other local artisans. It's grown into one of our favorite parts of the store, and it works a little differently than you might expect. Rather than renting out shelf space, we get to know the makers, buy their work outright, and give each piece a small tag so you can find the maker and keep following along after you leave. On a weekend centered on community and celebrating where we come from, spending a little of it supporting people creating beautiful things close to home feels especially right.

A Day to Slow Down and Be Grateful

Holidays like this have a way of inviting everyone to slow down a bit. Conversations last longer, people linger a little more, and for a few hours the usual pace of life doesn't feel quite as important. This year feels especially meaningful in Franklin as the community marks 250 years since Independence Day, adding an extra layer of celebration to an already full and lively day.

Whatever your Fourth looks like this year, whether that's the pet parade, fireworks at Harlinsdale, or simply sitting on a porch with people you love, we hope it's full of good food, good company, and a little extra rest.

Stop by before the parade, between events, or anytime you're downtown. We can't wait to chat and hear about your weekend plans!
