Flying Cow Tallow Product Guide
Walking into Flying Cow for the first time can feel a little like walking into your favorite local bookstore. There are shelves to explore, products to smell, and (especially in our Franklin shop!) beautiful handcrafted goods from local makers around nearly every corner.
If you're new to tallow skincare, it can feel like a lot at first, and that's okay! One of our favorite things is helping customers figure out where to start. That's exactly what this Flying Cow tallow product guide is for. While each product has its own purpose, our grass-fed tallow balm lineup shares the same philosophy: thoughtfully crafted formulas made with simple ingredients and designed to become everyday staples rather than products that sit forgotten in a drawer.
Why We Whip Our Tallow
One question we hear all the time is what makes our tallow different. Part of the answer is in the texture. Every balm is whipped by hand, creating the light, creamy consistency our customers know and love. The result is a balm that's easy to apply, spreads beautifully across the skin, and feels smooth rather than heavy. It's one of those small details that takes more time, but we think it's well worth it!
Think of what follows as a Flying Cow tallow ingredients guide as much as a product list. Here's a little guide to some of our customer favorites, what's in each one, and what people love them for.
Restore
Restore is often the first product people try, and for good reason. It's become our most popular all-purpose balm because it's incredibly versatile and easy to work into an everyday routine. The Restore balm ingredients are simple: grass-fed tallow, three varieties of organic frankincense, and helichrysum. It's a rich, nourishing balm many customers reach for morning and night. It's the jar they keep on the bathroom counter because they use it every single day!
Golden Tallow
Golden remains one of our longest-loved blends. The Golden Tallow ingredients are grass-fed tallow and three varieties of organic frankincense (Boswellia serrata, carterii, and frereana), a beautifully simple formula with the warm, earthy aroma so many customers love. Restore actually builds on this same frankincense blend by adding helichrysum, so if you've enjoyed Restore, Golden is that same foundation in its purest form. It's especially popular with those who enjoy a rich, nourishing balm and has become a favorite for more mature skin.
Bloom
Bloom is one of our favorite serums for adding a little extra luxury to a skincare routine. Unlike our other serums, Bloom contains a tallow base, and the rest of the Bloom Luxury Serum ingredients, rosehip oil, blue tansy, and organic rose oil, create a silky formula that many customers especially enjoy around the delicate under-eye area and neck. It absorbs beautifully while still delivering the nourishing feel people love about tallow.
Restore & Citrus Serum
If you prefer something a little lighter, our Restore Serum and Fresh Citrus Serum are wonderful options. Both are crafted from essential oils and carrier oils rather than a tallow base, so they absorb quickly and layer beautifully into an everyday routine.
Fresh Citrus is especially popular during warmer months thanks to its bright, fresh aroma, while Restore Serum has become a year-round favorite for those who enjoy a lightweight facial oil without the richness of a balm.
Blemish Balm and Serum
Our Blemish collection includes both a balm and a serum, giving customers the flexibility to choose the texture that fits their routine best. The Blemish Balm contains our grass-fed tallow base, while the Blemish Serum is crafted with a blend of thoughtfully selected carrier oils and essential oils. Both were created with blemish-prone and congested skin in mind and are designed to complement a consistent cleansing routine. Whether you're just getting started or looking to simplify your skincare, our team is always happy to help you decide which option may be the better fit.
Beard Balm and Man Balm
For the guys, our Beard Balm and Man Balm share the same earthy, woodsy character. The Beard Balm adds jojoba oil to the blend, which gives it a slightly softer glide through coarser facial hair, while Man Balm stays closer to our standard tallow base. Either one works well as a post-shave layer or an easy daily balm, and plenty of customers keep both on the shelf.
Baby Balm
Baby Balm has become one of our most-loved products, and if you've spent any time chatting with parents in our stores, you'll quickly hear why! Made with just two ingredients, grass-fed tallow and a small amount of unprocessed coconut oil, it's about as simple as skincare gets.
Many families keep a jar close by for everyday moisturizing, dry cheeks, chapped lips, diaper changes, little bumps and scrapes, or simply because it's become their go-to lotion for their kiddos. Time and time again, it's the product moms tell their friends they “can't live without.”
Which Flying Cow Tallow Balm to Choose
If you're still deciding, here's the short version. Restore is the easiest all-purpose starting point for most routines. Golden is for anyone who loves that pure frankincense character. Bloom adds a touch of luxury, especially around the under-eye area and neck. The Blemish collection suits blemish-prone or congested skin, the lighter serums are lovely for anyone who prefers a quick-absorbing facial oil, and Baby Balm's two-ingredient simplicity makes it the gentlest place to start for little ones or anyone sensitive to scent.
