Why We Chose Main Street
When people ask why we opened Flying Cow Tallow in Franklin, Tennessee, the answer is actually pretty simple: it felt like home.
After relocating our family to Tennessee in 2023, we spent time exploring the area and quickly found ourselves drawn to Franklin. There was something about the historic downtown, the locally owned shops, and the sense of community that reminded us why we started Flying Cow in the first place.
Long before there were storefronts, employees, or shipping stations, Flying Cow began in our home with a simple goal: creating products made with care using ingredients we felt good about. What started as one small solution for our own family eventually grew into something much bigger, but the heart behind it has remained the same.
We still believe there is value in slowing down. In making things thoughtfully. In choosing quality over convenience. In building relationships with customers and fellow small business owners. Those values are woven into Flying Cow, and they're also part of what makes Franklin such a special place.
A Community That Values Craftsmanship
One of the things we love most about Franklin is that it hasn't lost its appreciation for craftsmanship and creativity.
As you walk down Main Street, you'll find locally owned restaurants, boutiques, artists, makers, and businesses that have poured their hearts into what they do. There's a character and personality to downtown Franklin that simply can't be replicated by larger shopping centers or national chains.
For us, that feels familiar.
Flying Cow has always taken a different approach to skincare. We don't mass produce our product; it's small batch skincare, handmade with care. We focus on creating products intentionally, supporting other makers, and building spaces that encourage people to slow down and enjoy the experience of shopping local. This naturally connects with the atmosphere of Franklin, where historic preservation, local businesses, and artisan culture remain an important part of the community identity.
More Than Just a Store
If you've visited our Franklin shop, you've probably noticed that it's more than shelves of tallows and serums.
One of our favorite parts of Flying Cow has always been creating space for other artists and other small businesses. Through A Place for the Maker, we have the opportunity to share handcrafted goods from talented artisans whose work we admire and whose stories deserve to be told.
We believe communities are stronger when small businesses support one another. Every locally owned shop, artist studio, coffee shop, and maker contributes something unique to the places we call home.
That's one of the reasons we fell in love with Franklin.
There's a genuine sense of connection here. People show up for one another. They support local businesses. They care about preserving the character of their community while continuing to create space for new ideas and dreams to grow.
